Community Outreach
YOUTH GROUP ~ Fortnightly on a Tuesday night!
We have a real passion for the youth in our town, to see them come to understand and experience who their Dad in Heaven is, His love and purpose for their lives. This group provides a place of belonging for our year 9's+.
Our youth group focus is on providing a safe, positive, fun place for them to belong and a group to be part of, and of course there's always a lot of food when we get together!
Missions
Sharing God's love for the World is something that we are committed to at Whangamata Baptist.
We believe that as followers of Jesus each of us carries God's kingdom into every situation we find ourselves in.
We are committed to honouring God and increasing His kingdom through our lives, our work, our play, our relationships, our finances and our priorities.
We are deeply commited to our town and wider community of the Coromandel region.
We feel that the town and the people of Whangamata are our main mission focus and we not only desire to see Jesus impacting the lives of individuals and families but also the schools, businesses, leadership and governance of our town.
We have two main areas of local mission:
OUTREACH ~ We support a Community Youth Worker three days a week who runs a mentoring programme in the local school and also works with kids in a chaplancy role.
Moana House where we take a monthly service for the elderly folk.
These three areas give opportunities to carry God's kingdom into homes and speak into lives in our community that otherwise may never experience God's presence.
GLOBAL PARTNERS ~ We are also committed to Global Partners and currently support three mission partners as described below.
Adrienne ~ Adrienne is currently serving in North West Cambodia in a city called Battambang. She is working with The Handa Academy which is a purpose built school in the rural villages of Battambang. It’s main objective is to break the poverty cycle by teaching students English and other life skill subjects, as well as crafts and football. Students study both at Government School and THA each day, half a day at each.
Adrienne teaches English Revision classes three days a week and 3 craft classes a week and has 2 afternoons at home to plan and prepare for each class. Adrienne set up a classroom as a Learning Centre in 2021 with Educational Resources, books, games and puzzles. She maintains this and helps the students extend their education through play.
Adrienne is also studying the Cambodian language 2 mornings a week.
This is her 3rd year living in Battambang.
Evan and Maala ~ Evan and Maala are New Zealanders and co~pastor a church on the coast of Israel along with a Russian couple. They train local people to live as effective disciples of the Messiah, building loving and sincere communities of faith. Believers are encouraged to practice peace~making initiatives as well as social outreach to the elderly, disabled and drug or poverty stricken people.
The services are characteristically Jewish and recognisably Messianic.
Empower Asia ~ Empower Asia was begun by Paul and Carly Sommerville in 1990. The aim is to seek impoverished, vulnerable boys and girls to live in 18 homes across 7 countries which are run by indigenous, Christian people. The intention is to produce disciplined, passionate Christian adults that in time pour into other needy children what they have received themselves. Access their website to find out more details.
